There Are More Reasons To Be Thankful

I was reading a book over the weekend that ‘brought home’ the need to be consistently thankful. I gathered some astonishing statistics and i call them astonishing because when compared with the rest of the world statistics – they are incredible.

Nearly all Americans (98%) have water in the house, telephone, electricity and flush toilets.

Compare this to a report from UNICEF

Two and half billion people are still without access to improved sanitation – including 1.2 billion who have no sanitation facilities at all and are forced to engage in the hazardous and demeaning practices…..

Over 70% of Americans have at least one automobile, a cable television, a VCR or DVD player, a microwave oven, washer and dryer.

More often we take these things for granted, and indeed as our own rights and forget that in other parts of the world these very things are luxury for the rich and the elite.  If we fail to appreciate and be thankful even for these ‘small’ blessings that we have and enjoy each day, we set ourselves up to think that more stuff or more money will make us ‘happy’.

Even when money is not enough, or you are having to cut your expenses to meet your needs, cultivate the mindset of thankfulness. Think about millions of other people who would feel like ‘they are in heaven’ if they were in your position.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV)

Are you thankful for what you have?
